About

Def Leppard is a British rock band that began its journey in 1977. In its beginnings it had Rick Savage, Pete Willis and Tony Kenning. They were all friends in the town of Sheffield and soon after they were joined by the group's later vocalist, Joe Elliot. Not all of them got to record the band's first album, since Kenning left just before doing so.

Def Leppard's early work

The first album was released in 1980. On Through the Night was not well received by the British public. His second work, entitled High 'N' Dry, was quickly released. Again, sales were not as good as expected. However, the arrival of one of his video clips on MTV helped Def Leppard achieve greater popularity in North America.

Shortly after the release, Pete Willis, another of the founders, was forced to leave the band. That same year they released their third album, Pyromania. On this occasion, the public did accompany with their support. In the United States they came to lead the sales charts for a month and a half and accumulated more than 20 million records sold worldwide.

Your international success

It took four years to see them again on stage. A traffic accident caused one of its members to lose an arm. They waited for his recovery to put Hysteria up for sale in 1987. Its sales exceeded all expectations and reached 30 million. In the United Kingdom their popularity raised them to the top of the charts and in the fall of that year they began a tour of the United States that lasted almost a year.

Again, the wait until the next album was long. This was due to the passing of their guitarist, Steve Clark. In 1992 they released Adrenaline. Despite having lower sales than the previous two works, they reached number one in the United States. Worldwide this album sold 15 million copies. A year later, during the tour of this album, the band gave its largest concert in its hometown. Sheffield's Don Valley Stadium was sold out with more than 50,000 supporters of the group.

In 1995 they set another record, this time somewhat peculiar. On the same day they offered three concerts on three different continents. They played in Tangier, in London and in Vancouver.

Recent albums

The following albums represented a drastic drop in sales until in 2008 they released Songs from the Sparkle Lounge. The popularity provided by their inclusion in the video game Guitar Hero was very important for them to get a big tour again. They scheduled more than 40 concerts in the United States and also had performances in Europe. The first took place at the O₂ Arena in Dublin.

In 2015 they put a new album on sale again, with the name of Def Leppard. They recovered the sound of past albums and with a style closer to what they are really passionate about. In addition, in one of their songs, for the first time in their history, all their members acted as vocalists.

2022 has been the year of Def Leppard's rebirth. The release of their latest album, Diamond Star Halos, has ended a seven-year absence from the band. In addition, they have started a tour of the United States and Canada together with three other bands with which they will tour both countries in 36 events. So far, it has been a complete success, with more than 173 million dollars raised.
