are a form of boules where the goal is to throw hollow metal balls as close as possible to a small wooden ball, with both feet on the ground. The current form of the game originated in 1907 in the south of France, even though old Romans already played a primitive version of the game with stone balls.
Bowls can be played on almost any flat open space, but it is normally played in gravel or sandy areas. For national and International tournament play, a marked terrain is a rectangle at least 4 meters wide and 15 meters long.
Balls used in the game are metallic (they should not contain lead or sand in the inside), with grooves drawing its outline. The small ball or bowling is made of wood or synthetic material.
