About Mediterranean Games - Badminton

Consult here the fixed timetable for every sports competition and the confirmed calendar for the Mediterranean Games.

Badminton is a racquet sport played by either two opposing players (singles) or two opposing pairs (doubles) that take positions on opposite halves of a rectangular court divided by a net. Players score points by striking a shuttlecock with their racquet so that it passes over the net and lands in their opponents’ half of the court.

Badminton is a modern version of a primitive and simpler game called “battledore”, which was invented in China and in the early years it was a simple form of leisure. It was practised with 2 wooden pallets and a ball. Badminton as it is now originated in India, where it was called Poona, name of the village where it was first played. Some British army officers saw the game in India and brought it to England around the year 1873.

Badminton was not held in the Mediterranean Games until the 2013 edition in Mersin (Turkey).
