ABOUT MAD COOL

It was in 2016 when this festival held in Madrid was celebrated for the first time. Specifically, it was done in mid-June in the multipurpose stadium of La Caja Mágica.

In that first edition it was about uniting different elements. Music was one of the most prominent, covering rock, pop and different electronic proposals. It was joined by other forms of artistic expression such as fashion, gastronomy, tourism, etc.

The combination was a real success. The programming of its first edition resulted in three days of celebrations. Throughout these days, 70 concerts were offered, while the number of registered attendees far exceeded 100,000.

The artists that made up its lineup were Vetusta Morla, Garbage, Neil Young, 091, Michael Kiwanuka, Temples, Django Django, Hercules and Love Affair and Milky Chance, among others. This selection put Mad Cool 2016 on the same level as the most prominent competitions that existed at the national level.

After the good reception of the festival, those responsible did not hesitate to launch new editions that would be repeated annually. The one planned at the beginning of July 2017 brought together 135,000 people. Tickets were sold out a month before the announced start date.

Once again, the Magic Box building housed all of its activity, dedicating its outdoor spaces to it. Bands such as Foo Fighters, Foals, Belle and Sebastian, The Lumineers, Catfish and the Bottlemen performed there.

The line-up of artists continued to stand out for its level in 2018 and 2019, when the festival was moved to Espacio Mad Cool, the name given to the expansion of IFEMA.

The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic forced the suspension of the event scheduled for 2020. It was in July 2022 when its fifth edition was held. His return resulted in a total of five days of concerts and front-row stars. The list included Metallica, Wolf Alice, Florence + The Machine, Nina Kraviz and Nathy Peluso, among nearly 150 artists. The number of spectators rose to 310,000.
