ABOUT KAROL G
Karol G, also known as 'La Bichota,' is a Colombian artist born in 1991 in the city of Medellín. Despite her youth, the singer has already released four albums and has two Latin Grammy Awards.
Although she always had an interest in music, it was the television program Factor X that catapulted the artist to fame. Thanks to her participation in this talent show, she signed her first record deal. In fact, the style that her first producer tried to impose on the singer is what led her to approach reggaeton. Over time, she established that musical style as her own and continues to achieve success.
Her first performances outside the studios were in the Colombian city of Cartagena de Indias. There, she worked as the opening act for Don Omar and first connected with her audience in 2007. However, despite already having some songs, her first success took a little longer to arrive.
"Amor de dos," a song she released in collaboration with Nicky Jam in 2013, was one of the first that crossed borders. This track surpassed 120 million views on YouTube and allowed Karol G to take a leap in her musical career.
Her first solo album was released in 2017. "Unstoppable" featured thirteen original songs with collaborations such as Bad Bunny and Ozuna. In the same week of its release, it reached number two on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart and stayed in the ranking for 83 weeks.
"Ocean," released two years later, matched the position achieved by the previous album but remained on the chart for much longer, staying for 189 weeks.
"Unstoppable" also became Karol G's first solo tour, and it was international. She not only performed in Colombia but also visited Peru, Argentina, Chile, and Spain. Thanks to her strong connection with the audience, the singer won her first Latin Grammy as the best new artist. She also received a nomination for Female Artist of the Year at the Billboard Latin Music Awards.
In 2020, after the pause forced by the COVID-19 pandemic, Karol G released one of her most well-known songs, "Bichota," which quickly claimed the top position on multiple sales charts. Additionally, she used her presence at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards to perform this track live in Los Angeles, where she also won the award for the best Latin female artist.
Her next work, "KG0516," was released in March 2021. Once again, the success of several tracks was evident on major platforms. Most of the songs from the album surpassed 100 million views on YouTube. But one that made a difference was "Tusa," which is approaching 1.5 billion views on the platform.
In 2023, a new album by the artist has been released. Karol G published "Mañana será bonito" last February. The new album includes 17 songs, among which stands out "TQG," her collaboration with Shakira. In just a few days, it reached over 60 million plays on Spotify and keeps the singer among those with the highest number of listeners.
