About
The singer-songwriter Juan Gómez Canca, better known in the artistic world as Kanka, was born in Malaga on October 9, 1982. In his youth he did not have a great relationship with music, although his family soon discovered that he had a gift. His first notes were played on a piano, but it was during his teens that he began his guitar studies at the conservatory. From then on, everything changed for him, because that instrument quickly became his great passion.
During his university days in Malaga, he began a career in Economic Sciences, but his life took another course when he decided to study Philosophy. He got a scholarship to continue his studies in Madrid, a city where he started playing in small bars in front of a few spectators. His first musical group was called Doctor Desastre, although a short time later he changed his name to T de Trapo.
Combining his small performances with a job as a guitar teacher, he managed to make enough to make a demo and record his first album.
This led him to participate in musical events in which he became known throughout the country. In 2013 he finally got that first record. He did it completely independently, without a label. He took advantage of the free slots in several friends' recording studios to record his songs and take his music to the next level. The result was How Bad I Am and How Little I Complain, a work that consecrated him on the national scene and forever changed his way of making music.
Despite the success of this first adventure, he hardly had concerts scheduled. A year later, his second album, Juan Gómez's lucky day, was released. The rhythm was unstoppable with a third work called De pana y rubí, which went on sale in 2015. From then on, his career suffered a small creative break, but it did not stop his ambition to reach more and more spectators. He began a tour in which he played his best known songs throughout the country.
Two and a half years later he released The Art of Jumping, an album that picked up his career at the point where he had left it. He had songs written from the heart and a great story to show his audience. El Kanka, after this success, did not want to slow down and released in 2019 what is his last work to date, a 3-song EP titled CanEpé.
However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, the singer continued to work. He spent 50 days playing non-stop for his audience. He did it to feel better and to accompany all those who were locked up in his houses.
After that, he set out to tour all of Spain. He did it at an unusual pace for any artist: 90 concerts in less than a year. The penultimate of them took place in his land, at the Cervantes Theater. There, in front of a luxury audience and with everything sold out, he showed the best version of himself.
After leaving music for a while, this 2022 the time has come for his resurgence. Through his social networks and his website, he has shown what a new beginning will be. El Kanka will return with all the lyrics that he has kept in a drawer during this last year to reunite with his fans. Everything seems to indicate that a new album with 14 songs written by him will soon be released.
The Kanka has announced the Cosas de los Vivientes tour on September 19, 2022, which will cover a large part of the Spanish geography during 2023 and will begin in Murcia in March. Tickets for these concerts will be on sale from Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 10 a.m.
